How to Cook Pfeffernusse Cookies |
Ingredients Pfeffernusse Cookies:
- 1/2 cup molasses
- 1/4 cup honey
- 1/4 cup butter, diced
- 1/4 cup shortening
- 2 large eggs, room temperature
- 1-1/2 teaspoons of anise extract
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup packaged brown sugar
- 2 teaspoons cinnamon powder
- 1-1/2 teaspoons of baking soda
- 1 teaspoon ground ginger
- 1 teaspoon cardamom powder
- 1 teaspoon nutmeg powder
- 1 teaspoon ground cloves
- 3/4 teaspoon coarsely ground pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup confectionery sugar
How to Make Pfeffernusse Cookies:
- In a small saucepan, combine molasses, honey, butter, and butter. Cook and stir over medium heat until dripping. Remove from heat; cool to room temperature. Stir in eggs and concentrate.
- Combine flour, granulated sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, baking soda, ginger, cardamom, nutmeg, cloves, pepper, and salt. Gradually add the molasses combination and mix until smooth. Cover and refrigerate for a minimum of 2 hours or overnight.
- Preheat the oven to 325°. Roll dough into a 1-in. ball. Place 1 inch apart on a greased baking sheet. Bake 12-15 minutes or until golden brown. Remove cookies to the wire rack. Roll warm cakes in confectioner's sugar. Cool completely. Put in an airtight container.
