Erwtensoep Soup

Erwtensoep Soup

Dalgano - Dutch Food | This soup comes from the Netherlands, some say it's from Germany. The basic ingredients for this soup are split green peas. There are two types of peas but the taste is the same, only different colors, some are green and yellowish.

This type of soup is different from soup in general. Originally, this soup was made using pork, usually, pork leg or parts of fatty pork, pork sausage, smoked bacon, and chopped vegetables. This soup tends to be very thick.

Usually stored overnight to thicken. For those of you who can't or don't like pork, don't worry. Here I will share my erwtensoep recipe made from beef. The taste is still the same. For those of you who want to use pork, please. Hopefully useful and in good health for all of us. If you want to know other typical Dutch foods, you can see the recipe Famous Dutch Croquette.

Ingredients

  • 1 kg of dry peas, make sure to buy the ones that have been peeled and the skin is thinly sliced.
  • 1/2 beef or to taste
  • 4 medium-sized carrots
  • 4 medium-size onions
  • 4 scallions
  • 8 large celery stalks
  • 6 pieces of bay leaf
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 4 liters of water

How to make Erwtensoep

  1. Prepare dry peas in a container. Then wash and set aside.
  2. Cut the vegetables according to taste, usually, the pieces are rather large, here I chopped them into small pieces so that it quickly disintegrates when boiled. Also, prepare the Bay leaf.
  3. Then prepare the beef/pork. Wash clean first.
  4. Then prepare the water in a pan, add the meat. Then enter the beans that have been washed clean, then add all the pieces of vegetables and bay leaf.
  5. Boil and cook until beans and vegetables are crushed and thickened, use low heat, and stir occasionally so they don't burn. Add salt and pepper. After the taste is enough and thick, remove the meat. Turn off the heat, cut the meat according to taste, pour the soup into a plate or bowl. Give it a piece of meat. And ready to eat.
